In Memory of Ron Schuler

706521201Ag Council’s staff and the board of directors were saddened to hear of the passing of Ron Schuler on September 13, 2018 after a courageous fight against cancer. Ag Council extends our deepest sympathies to Ron’s wife Laurie, his three children and four grandchildren.

Ron devoted his life to California agriculture and earned tremendous respect for his leadership.  Among his many roles, he led the California Canning Peach Association as president and CEO from 1974-2002, served as chair of Ag Council’s board from 1983-1985, and was also chair of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives from 1997-1998.

Ron was active in the California State Fair Ag Advisory Committee for more than 30 years and was recognized as Agriculturalist of the Year in 2008.  In 2003, he was awarded Ag Council’s Cooperative Leader Award (now the California Cultivator Award), which is the association’s highest honor.

Continuing his life of giving back and encouraging youth to become involved in agriculture, Ron served on the Future Farmers of America board for more than 10 years.

Schuler Scholarship Endowment

Ron’s desire to help young people succeed was so strong that he recently created an endowment scholarship at his alma mater, UC Davis, where he was an active alumnus. Ag Council is making a donation to the scholarship endowment, and we encourage others to do the same to support students seeking degrees at the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

To honor Ron and help continue his remarkable legacy, please consider sending a contribution to the endowment (checks payable to “UC Davis Foundation” and write “Schuler Scholarship Endowment” on the memo line) at the following address:
