As I conclude my summer internship with Agricultural Council of California (Ag Council), I am immensely grateful for the abundant learning opportunities and growth that I gained from this experience.
Two days a week I traveled from my hometown of Hilmar, California to participate in Ag Council’s efforts to influence agricultural policy within the State Legislature and regulatory agencies.
Walking into work, I catch sight of the Capitol, and know that the work being done through Ag Council impacts numerous pivotal decisions and helps make a difference for agriculture throughout the state.
Growing up in the heart of California’s Central Valley and being raised in a dairy and almond farming family, allowed me to not only develop an appreciation and love for agriculture, but also hold an awareness of the policies that shape the industry.
My summer internship provided me with a deeper perspective on agriculture policy and advocacy. Being an active part of the work that Ag Council is pursuing has been both challenging and rewarding. Whether researching agriculture policy, reporting on legislative hearings and regulatory meetings, or preparing content for Ag Council events, I discovered that each experience challenged me in ways that fostered personal growth.
I am profoundly thankful to have utilized my background and experiences to contribute to Ag Council’s advocacy efforts to represent farmers, agricultural cooperatives, and farmer-owned businesses throughout our state. I look forward to using what I’ve learned during college and beyond.
Morgan is beginning her freshman year at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a major in Ag Communications and serves as the California Milk Advisory Board District 4 dairy princess helping to educate others about the dairy community.
