Sen. McGuire Receives Influential Legislator Award

Ag Council presented Senator Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg) with its Influential Legislator of the Year Award during Ag Council’s Legislative Conference in Sacramento on May 14.
This annual award recognizes legislators who embody a collaborative approach to finding positive outcomes for agriculture and all of California. Senator McGuire represents these qualities and more.
“The senator seizes opportunities to enthusiastically represent agriculture and rural California in the State Legislature,” Ag Council President Emily Rooney said.
“As a member of the Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review, he is a vocal champion for farmers and the agricultural community during fiscal discussions and negotiations. For example, he is an assertive voice in supporting cap and trade funding for farmers to incentivize emissions reductions and ensure a resilient and sustainable agricultural system,” Rooney said.
Senator McGuire possesses boundless energy to tackle complex issues. Whether working on issues relating to California’s devastating wildfires or legislation establishing a state structure to regulate cannabis, Sen. McGuire does not hesitate to jump into demanding and sometimes difficult policy areas.
Ag Council also appreciates that he is an ardent advocate for career training for students and Future Farmers of America.
Senator McGuire is from Healdsburg and his expansive northern California district includes the counties of Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Sonoma and Trinity. He is a former member of the Healdsburg City Council and is co-founder of a foundation investing in career training courses for high school students.
In addition to serving on the Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review, Senator McGuire is Chair of the Committee on Government & Finance and also sits on the Committee on Energy, Utilities & Communications, the Committee on Transportation and the Committee on Housing.
