The bill to severely restrict local entities from issuing a permit for a new groundwater well – AB 2079 (Bennett) – failed on a vote of 5-6 in the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee on June 11.

Ag Council opposed the bill along with a coalition of others in agriculture, business, water districts and representatives of local governments. The coalition had offered amendments to make the measure more workable. However, many of the amendments were not accepted by the bill author, and AB 2079 failed to pass.

Special thanks to the following group of bipartisan legislators who voted against the bill in committee: Sen. Dahle, Sen. Eggman, Sen. Grove, Sen. Hurtado, Sen. Padilla, and Sen. Seyarto. Please be sure to say “thank you” if you see them.
