Agricultural Council of California (Ag Council) announces Melvin Medeiros as the recipient of the 2024 California Cultivator Award.

Medeiros is a dairy producer, chair of Dairy Farmers of America’s (DFA) Western Area Council, and chair of Ag Council’s Dairy Policy Committee. Melvin received the award during Ag Council’s 105th Annual Meeting in Carlsbad on March 12.

Melvin’s illustrious career in dairy farming spans over four decades, marked by a steadfast commitment to excellence and sustainability.

Dennis Rodenbaugh, CEO of Dairy Farmers of America, said, “Melvin has made a tremendous impact throughout his career, not only within California but across the entire dairy industry. His thoughtful, strategic approach and innovative spirit exemplify the values we cherish in agriculture.”

Jeannine Campos Grech, Ag Council’s immediate past chair, said, “Melvin is a beacon of inspiration, imparting his passion and knowledge to all who have the privilege of working alongside him.”

Melvin began his dairy journey in 1981, carrying on the legacy of his father’s farm. In 2007, he and his wife, Kelley, established Medeiros Holsteins, embracing innovation and diversification to enhance their operations. Today, Melvin oversees a dairy operation alongside his sons, maintaining a strong focus on environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.

Melvin’s leadership extends beyond the farm, as he serves on DFA’s Executive Committee, chairs the Western Area Council, and holds positions of influence within the National Milk Producers Federation and Ag Council. Through his advocacy and vision, Melvin has shaped policy and championed initiatives to advance the interests of dairy farmers nationwide.

The California Cultivator Award is bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the agricultural community through their leadership and commitment.

Melvin’s impact resonates not only within the dairy community but also across broader agricultural and environmental spheres. His collaborative efforts with legislators and regulatory officials have paved the way for positive change, ensuring a sustainable future for California agriculture.
